Le Touret Military Cemetery and Memorial
Le Touret Military Cemetery and Memorial, Richebourg-l'Avoue, France. The Memorial contains the names of 13,368 men with no known grave, who fell in the area enclosed on the North by the river Lys and a line drawn from Estaires to Fournes, and on the south by the old southern boundary of the First Army about Grenay, and covers the period from the arrival of the II Corps in Flanders in 1914 to the eve of the Battle of Loos. The Cemetery was begun in November 1914 and used continuously by Field Ambulances and fighting units until March 1918. It passed into German hands in April 1918, and after its recapture a few further burials were made. There are over 900 1914-18 War casualties commemorated in this site.
One man of the North Irish Horse, Lieutenant S.B. Combe, is commemorated here. The location of his name on the memorial is shown on the CWGC cemetery and memorial plan below.
